Overview

Microsoft 365 Copilot is an enterprise AI assistant built into Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams. It uses large language models to understand context from your documents, emails, and conversations, then generates drafts, summaries, and insights on demand. For operators: Copilot is positioned as a productivity multiplier for knowledge work. It processes your existing M365 content—meeting transcripts, spreadsheets, email threads—and surfaces patterns or generates starting drafts. The system respects your tenant's data governance and does not train on your content (verify on vendor site for current data handling policies). Key workflow integration points: In Word, users prompt Copilot to draft sections or rewrite tone. In Excel, it can suggest formulas or explain data patterns. In PowerPoint, it generates slide layouts from outlines. In Outlook, it drafts replies and summarizes long threads. In Teams, it recaps meetings and surfaces action items. Enterprise adoption requires Microsoft 365 E5 or standalone Copilot Pro licenses (verify current SKU requirements).
